Prayer Letter October 2016

Dear Friends of SAGOS, Greetings!

Francis Bacon once said, “History makes men wise”. All historical assets are modern people’s inheritance, who are deeply influenced by historical culture. Praise God that over the past 13 years, SAGOS has organized many “Holy Land Tours” and “Apostles Footsteps Tours”, and many participants expressed that they learned much from us. It happens that next year, 2017, is the 500th anniversary of “The Reformation”, and SAGOS is organizing a “Church History Tour” (2 tours, Mandarin and Cantonese respectively). It will be from 4/18-5/1, 2017, to visit three countries: Italy, Switzerland and Germany. The main emphases are to see the persecution of the early church in Rome, the martyrdom of Apostles Peter and Paul, and the historical development of Church reformation in the 16th Century. In addition to Rev. Johann Lai and Rev. Samuel Ho as lecturers, we are glad to have invited Rev. Peter Au, President of Tyndale Chinese Seminary in Toronto to join us as lecturer. From early September to mid-October, Rev. and Mrs. Lai taught in Asia, leading classes in “Ten-step Bible Study Method’’ and “Expositional preaching”. In the beginning of October, they lead the 16th Anniversary Thanksgiving services of the New Millennium Evangelical Church in Manila, Philippines. They returned to USA on 10/12.

Rev. Robert Shen has completed 3 weeks training in Asia, as well as completed the initial draft of the book “Ten-step Study of the Book of 1 Peter”.

Rev. Ho has completed his training and teaching in Asia from late September to early October; and his lecture series “Exposition and Application of the book of Ecclesiastes” held from mid-Sept. to mid-Oct. in Hong Kong is about to be completed. Thanks to our Lord!

Rev. Lai will lead a Bible camp on “Ten-step Bible Study on Malachi” from 10/21-23 in Houston Westside Chinese Church, and churches in the greater Houston area are welcomed to participate. Furthermore, the Bible camp on “Ten-step Bible Study on Habakkuk” in North California will be held at Mount Herman Conference Center from 11/11-13. Please visit our website at www.sagos.org for information on these 2 camps and register to participate.

Thank God, the 2017 SAGOS calendar “Chinese flowers and birds painting desk calendar” was published with Rev. Ho as the contributor. They are initially welcomed by Hong Kong churches.

Please continue to give thanks and pray for the following:

  • The Asia training conducted by SAGOS co-workers from Sept.-Oct. have been completed.
  • The “Ten-step Bible Study Camp on Malachi” to be held 10/21-23 in Houston.
  • The “Ten-step Bible Study Camp on Habakkuk” to be held 11/11-13 in North California.
  • Preparation for the “Church History Tour” to be held in 4/18-5/1, 2017.
  • The new book “Living Word on Expository Preaching” is in near completion.

May the blessing of our Lord overflow!

Your Co-worker,
Johann Lai
